The cajita features photography of my recent mural "Víspera" - painted in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico for City Hall. Juana Díaz is a southern Puerto Rican town celebrated for its rendition of the Three Kings. This mural depicts youthful traditions on the eve before Three Kings Day, including picking grass as a gift for the kings’ camels, which is left in a box by the bed (and hopefully filled with gifts!) This is a celebration that we remember and look forward to each January with great excitement, and although it is not the same experience for every child, my intention is that the mural can serve as inspiration for all. The ingredients for this ritual are very simple, and I hope to remind families that we can use basic materials to continue this tradition.
